Ula'tek
The Venomous Abyss · boss 8 of 8
The great shame of the Amani empire. The vast complex of Altal'Utek was created to imprison the weapon that proved to be as much of a threat as the enemy she was intended to destroy. Ula'tek has risen from her ancient slumber and threatens all of Azeroth if she should escape.
The serpent mother floods the floor with venom, and her eggs hatch the instant venom touches them — every hatch sprays Putrid Membrane on the whole raid. Keep eggs off the wave paths.
An egg-and-wave control fight across three stages. Boss damage is almost incidental; you win by keeping Blightscale eggs away from Caustic Waves so fewer hatch, stacking for Spectral Coils, and killing Doomscale Wardens and Blightscale Clutches before they empower. Intercept Toxic Incubation so the Toxic Blightscale doesn't get fed.
The spells that matter
The handful you actually react to. Hover for Blizzard's own text; click through for the full tooltip.
What actually kills you
Everything else is noise until these three are handled.
- Eggs meeting Caustic Waves. Waves make eggs hatch instantly, and every Blightscale Viper that hatches puts Putrid Membrane on the whole raid.
- Spectral Coils landing on too few players. The damage is divided by how many stand in it — soak it together.
- Letting a Blightscale Clutch grow, or a Doomscale Warden live. Wardens forbid touching the eggs they guard and keep empowering them via Writhing Gestation.
Your job
If you tank
- Ula'tek uses Unchecked Rage if she can't melee anyone — stay in range.
- Mother's Wrath knocks you back, marks you, and stacks Stone Venom plus Hobbled; if her target is out of reach she hits everyone instead, and Gore Rattle's Rattler Slam fires the same way when she has no melee target.
- Swap before Stone Venom stacks pin you somewhere bad.
If you heal
- Every Blightscale Viper that hatches is another Putrid Membrane on everyone — fewer hatches is permanently less healing.
- Necrotic Vapors stack all fight and never fall off; the back half is far harder than the front, so bank cooldowns.
- Spectral Coils is a stack-soak, not a spread — its damage drops with more players in it, and Soul Constrictor can strip a player's mitigation for the next one.
If you DPS
- Keep eggs off the wave paths — that's the real job. Intercept the Toxic Incubation venom so it hits you (Toxic Burn) instead of feeding the Toxic Blightscale Mother's Boon, which would make it tankier and deadlier.
- Kill Blightscale Clutches early — they grow in power during Writhing Gestation.
- Kill the Doomscale Warden, not the eggs it protects; Warden's Protection forbids touching them while it lives.
How the fight goes
| Part | What to do |
|---|---|
| Stage One: Fury of the Serpent Mother | Caustic Waves and eggs — keep them apart. Intercept Toxic Incubation to deny the Toxic Blightscale its Mother's Boon, soak Spectral Coils, and expose the Venomous Heart during Rage of the Shackled. |
| Stage Two: Children of the Doomscale | Doomscale Wardens roam empowering Blightscale Spawn into Clutches via Writhing Gestation while Doomscale Eggs hatch Ravenous Doomscales. Kill wardens; wardens forbid touching the guarded eggs while alive. |
| Intermission: The Shattering | Ula'tek shatters the platform, shrinking the safe space, while Spectral Coils and Necrotic Vapors keep pressure on. Stack for the Coils. |
| Stage Three: Ula'tek's Ascension | Call of the Serpent keeps summoning while Circling Prey destroys the remaining safe ground and Serpent's Bite petrifies players into Calcified Corpses. This is a race — leech Serpent's Bite off marked players carefully (Volatile Purge) and burn her down. |
Heroic vs Mythic
What changes on Heroic
- Doomscale Wardens cast Grasping Fangs, rooting/slowing random players until the fang is snapped — which then injects Blight Vein.
- Blightscale Vipers (from the Doomscale Clutches) cast Petrifying Sting, turning players near the dive to stone and absorbing healing.
What changes on Mythic
- Blightscale Spawn become Hardened — their shell absorbs the next hit and can't be moved while it holds, so break the shell before you try to reposition an egg.
- Picking up a Hardened spawn applies Noxious Shell: a Nature bleed that causes a Noxious Splash if you move within 3 yards of another carrier, and leaves Rancid Yolk when removed. Carriers must spread.
- Blightscale Rawlings gain Boiling Venom, empowering them to use Acidic Expulsion, and Weakened Doomscales cast Revenge when a clutchmate dies.

Worth a bonus roll?
That depends on how many items on this table you still want. A boss owing two or more is worth returning to; one owing a single piece is a vault pick, not a roll — the bonus roll guide explains why, and the planner works it out per spec.
