The Golden Serpent
Kings' Rest · boss 1 of 4
Kings' Rest has come under attack before. After a foolish troll tried to summon Hakkar the Soulflayer to this island many millennia ago, the priests of Zandalar created a mighty construct to defend this tomb. The Golden Serpent has stood against intruders ever since, judging who is worthy to enter these sacred halls.
The gold he spits becomes pools, the pools stand up and walk back to him, and each one that arrives shields him and raises his damage. Drop pools far, kill what walks.
A fight you lose slowly by being careless with the floor. Spit Gold leaves a Molten Gold pool wherever its target stood; Lucre's Call animates every pool at once, and each Animated Gold that reaches the Serpent is absorbed as a stack of Luster, a shield plus a lasting damage increase.

What actually kills you
Everything else is noise until these three are handled.
- Dropping pools near him. Animated Gold then has less ground to cover, and Luster never comes off.
- Assuming a killed one is dealt with. Animated Gold that dies reverts to a Molten Gold pool, still there for the next Lucre's Call.
- Letting Luster build. Each stack shields him and raises his damage, so a comfortable start becomes an unhealable finish.
Your job
If you tank
- Hold him still and let the group carry the gold to the far side. Walking him toward the pools does the Serpent's job for him.
- Tail Thrash is ordinary heavy melee on the current target, not the fight.
If you heal
- Spit Gold is a Fire burn on its target plus splash on anyone near the impact; the target should be running to clean ground, so expect them out of position.
- Serpentine Gust hits everyone, the predictable and healable part of the pattern.
If you DPS
- Move out with Spit Gold before it lands. Where you stand is where the pool drops, and that is the whole encounter.
- Kill Animated Gold as far from him as you can reach it, so the reverted pool sits somewhere harmless.
How the fight goes
| Part | What to do |
|---|---|
| Step 1 | Spit Gold marks players; each leaves a Molten Gold pool where they stood. |
| Step 2 | Lucre's Call animates every pool at once and they walk toward the Serpent. |
| Step 3 | Anything that reaches him becomes a stack of Luster; anything killed becomes a pool again for the next call. |
Higher keys
Heroic and Mythic
The journal marks only that Kings' Rest is Heroic and Mythic only (not available in Normal); it publishes no key-level-specific text. Higher keys scale health and damage. We would rather say that than invent a difference.
Loot
Everything The Golden Serpent can drop, from the Midnight Season 2 item database.
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Waist | Belt of the Consecrated Tomb |
| Legs | Breeches of the Sacred Hall |
| Legs | Down-Lined Breeches |
| Feet | Auric Puddle Stompers |
| Feet | Goldfeather Boots |
| Hands | Gauntlets of the Avian Sentinel |
| Trinket | Lustrous Golden Plumage |
| One-hand | Gilded Serpent's Tooth |
Nothing matches that.
This boss drops a trinket. Trinket value varies enormously by spec — see the simulated trinket rankings.
Worth a bonus roll?
You cannot roll this boss on its own. A dungeon roll is against the whole instance, so this table is one part of a pool that includes every other boss in Kings' Rest — the bonus roll guide explains what that changes, and the planner works it out per spec.
