Sentinel of Winter
Den of Nalorakk · boss 2 of 3
The seasons can be kind or cruel. Sentinel of Winter unleashes the harshest of winter storms to test all who face him. To surpass Nalorakk's second trial, endure the biting cold and defeat the embodiment of a winter storm.
The storm shoves you out of its safe eye. Walk back in, and kill each Fractured Shivercore before Winter's Shroud stacks make everything lethal.
Frozen Tempest pulses Frost damage and pushes everyone toward the edge, where the damage is worse, so hold the eye. Shattering Frostspike reveals Fractured Shivercores that stack Winter's Shroud (raid-wide Frost damage plus increasing Frost damage taken) until killed, so kill them fast, because every second one lives makes the storm hurt more.

What actually kills you
Everything else is noise until these three are handled.
- Drifting out of the eye. Frozen Tempest ticks on everyone and pushes outward; players outside the eye take an extra helping every second.
- Slow Shivercore kills. Winter's Shroud stacks a Frost-damage-taken increase that the storm then cashes in.
- (Mythic) Ignoring Rimeshatter. Its ice shards must be soaked; if none are struck, the fragments cause a Rime Detonation that damages and roots the whole group.
Your job
If you tank
- Move with the pushback instead of fighting it in place; the eye is the only ground worth holding.
- Raging Squalls wander their own paths for moderate damage; being shoved into one while already outside the eye is how you die here.
If you heal
- Glacial Torment is a large Magic hit; dispel it rather than heal it.
- Damage taken climbs with Winter's Shroud, so save cooldowns for late in a Shivercore's life, not the start.
If you DPS
- Fractured Shivercores over the boss, always; they are why the fight escalates.
- (Mythic) Soak a Rimeshatter shard. It is caught, not dodged, and an unsoaked one roots the group.
- Shivercores leave a Snowdrift where they die, so kill them off the spot you will need to stand on.
How the fight goes
| Part | What to do |
|---|---|
| Step 1 | Frozen Tempest runs throughout: constant Frost damage and constant pushback toward the edge. |
| Step 2 | Shattering Frostspike drops two splintering icicles that reveal a Fractured Shivercore. |
| Step 3 | The Shivercore stacks Winter's Shroud until it dies and leaves a Snowdrift; on Mythic it also bursts into Rimeshatter shards that must be soaked. |

What changes on Heroic
Nothing published beyond the base fight.
What changes on Mythic
- Fractured Shivercores also trigger Rimeshatter when defeated: they burst into ice shards that impact shortly after and must be soaked. If no player is struck, the fragments cause a Rime Detonation that deals Frost damage to all players and roots them.

Worth a bonus roll?
You cannot roll this boss on its own. A dungeon roll is against the whole instance, so this table is one part of a pool that includes every other boss in Den of Nalorakk — the bonus roll guide explains what that changes, and the planner works it out per spec.
